Our History
In 1921, Leslie Hogben started trading from home in Southgate as a general insurance broker. His clients included theatre and circus personnel. Leslie identified a market for tax advisory services to these clients, recruiting Frank Dunphy and David Sherbird as his assistants.

In the 1960s, the firm relocated to the West End to cater for an expanding niche client base and secured an office suite at 26 Charing Cross Road. Frank Dunphy and David Sherbird became partners with Leslie Hogben.

Throughout the 1970s and into the early 1980s, Leslie, Frank and David continued trading in partnership as Leslie Hogben & Co. and latterly Hogbens. Leslie Hogben passed away in the early eighties.
During the 1980s and early 1990s, Frank Dunphy became sole proprietor following David Sherbird’s early retirement, growing the firm and recruiting Richard Wadhams and Damian McGee in 1986 and 1989 respectively, and moved to 22 Charing Cross road in 1999.

In 2002, the firm became Hogbens Dunphy. In late 2000, with Frank Dunphy no longer involved in the day-to-day running of the practice and Damian McGee retiring as partner, Richard Wadhams took the helm as Director, and moved the firm to 45 Monmouth Street, just around the corner from Covent Garden.

In 2013 we moved from Covent Garden to media designed offices in Oxford Street above the well-known music venue The 100 Club, where we are still based today.
